Artist Profile - Natalie Fielding

Christopher Silas Neal is one of my favorite illustrators. And although his work is more illustrative and editorial based, I think his characters use a lot of the same principals we've been taught this semester. Albeit a lot folksy-er and loser :). He freelances in Brooklyn for some major clients while teaching at the Pratt Institue, and even dips a bit in some short animations. His process is pretty traditional and simple (a nod to his work). Routine thumbnails, concept sketches, drawing, scanning, photoshop, repeat. I think he uses a lot of good shape language as well, seeing as though he does rely heavily on shape (as opposed to line, form). He messes with his characters proportions (smaller heads to bigger bodies, bigger hands, stumpier legs, etc.). Anyway, a little different, Christopher Silas Neal.
